Holy Week 2017
Palm/Passion Sunday is the Sunday before Easter. This is the day we celebrate Jesus' entry into Jerusalem amidst the joyful welcome of His followers but it can also deal with the story of His passion and death. Often the services begin with a joyous palm parade with shouts of Hosanna!
Daily Worship @ Noon (April 10th – April 14th)
Our annual Community Holy Week Services will be held at the Yellville Methodist Church. There will be a 30 minute worship service Monday through Friday. Each day a different minister and musicians will present the service bringing a meaningful message and special music. Lunch will be served in the fellowship hall following the service Monday through Thursday. No lunch will be served on Good Friday.
- Workers are encouraged to come on their lunch break and will be first in line for the meal.
Maundy Thursday Service
On Thursday of Holy Week, Christians meet to commemorate Jesus’ Last Supper, when He broke bread and gave the cup to His disciples, initiating the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper. The word Maundy, comes from the Latin, mandatum or commandment.
At the Last Supper, Jesus said, “I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another”. (John 13:34)
- Our Methodist friends will join us to celebrate the Lord’s Supper on Thursday, April 13th at 6:00 p.m.
Good Friday Service
Our Good Friday service will be on Friday, April 14th at 6:00 p.m.
In Old English usage “good” meant “of God”. Good Friday is “God’s Friday”: Jesus’ death shows God’s salvation. Some churches have evening services and others have 3 hour services from noon until 3:00 pm, focusing on Jesus’ words from the cross:
- “Father, forgive them”;
- “Today you will be with me in paradise”;
- “Woman, behold your son”;
- “My God, why have you forsaken me?”;
- “I thirst”;
- “It is finished”;
- “Into your hands I commend my spirit”.
Easter Sunrise Service
Celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord Sunday, April 16th! The community Sunrise Service will be held in the City Park at 6:30 a.m. Pastor Blake will bring the message this year. In case of rain, the service will be at our church followed by breakfast. This is a wonderful way to begin Easter morning, try to get up a little early and attend—you will be blessed!!!
