The (Church) Mouse October, 2016

...excerpts from the monthly newsletter of the First Presbyterian Church of Yellville, Arkansas

Chili / Soup Cook-Off and Bazaar

Come to the Presbyterian Church on October 22, 2016 (5pm - 7pm) for an evening of food and fellowship and living the mission of our church – To serve God by proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ throughout our community and the world.

Beneficiary Changed:

“The best made plans of mice and men often go awry.” So we adjust! The trip of our mission group has been postponed to next year due to many concerns over the Zika virus. Therefore we adjust and will be sending the proceeds of our Noisy Offering and the Cookoff and Bazaar to the Presbyterian Disaster Assistance. PDA is in Louisiana currently, working with people displaced by the recent heavy flooding. Presbyterian churches in the area are providing food and shelter for large numbers of people. They need our help!

But the fun goes on!

Though the recipients of our benevolence have changed, our plans to eat and purchase bazaar items have not!! A sign-up sheet will be placed in the hallway for soups, chilis and stews. There will be another sheet for desserts. Crackers, chips and condiments will be provided. You may taste the various offerings and then vote for your favorite by placing a donation in the appropriate coffee can.

Bazaar items will once again be placed on the long tables around the room. Many items have already been donated! Shawnee Quilters have given woven scarves, crocheted scarves and hats, small useful Kleenex covers and jar openers, microwave bowls, potholders, tea towels and other items. And numerous delicious sounding food packages have been promised! You may start bringing items after October 1st. Put them in the Sunday School room across from the Pastor’s office. A suggested price for your item would be helpful.

Women's Ministry

Volunteers and Items Needed - Creekside Rehabilitation Center

Creekside Nursing Home is looking for Bingo Partners and Personal Shoppers. To be a Bingo Partner, you would sit with a resident and help them play the game. Bingo is played every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Just show up on the designated day if you are interested. They are also looking for small prizes for Bingo. (Nothing breakable or flammable)

A personal shopper would assist the resident in making purchases at Fred's. If you are interested in helping in this area, please contact the Activities Director, Christine at Creekside or Carolyn Sims of FPC.

Haloween Candy Needed: Creekside will be sponsoring a "Trunk or Treat" for the residents to be able to pass out candy to local children. They are asking for donations of bags of candy. Our Women's Ministry is also collecting bags of candy to be used for stuffing Christmas goodie bags for the Yellville Food Closet. You may bring your bags of candy to church and put it in the flowered basket in the kitchen any time during the month of October and the first week of November.

Craft Day - There will be a craft day on Tuesday, October 18 at 11:00 a.m. to make bags and felt ornaments for the Yellville Food Closet. Bring a sack lunch if you wish and come enjoy a really fun time crafting together, laughing and doing something good for our community. You don't need to have "crafting experience". Just a desire to help out and have fun.

Grief Support Group - Women's Ministry will be providing a meal to the Grief Support Group that meets at our church on Thursday, October 27 at 5:00 p.m. If you would like to provide a dish or help serve please contact Kay Kelly. There are 7-10 people that attend this group.

Food Closet Thanks Us! MANY THANKS FROM THE FOOD CLOSET! Once again your response to a request from the Food Closet has been overwhelming! We’ve received many, many egg cartons and have all we can use at this time. Thanks to all who donated!!
